Dhanbad, Sept 16: The Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) has declared the two-day tournament, organized by the newly formed JBA from September 18 in Jamshedpur as unauthorised.

Jharkhand Badminton Association general secretary K Prabhakar Rao in his notice issued on Thursday has said that the local tournament to be held at Telco (Jamshedpur) on September 18-19, is an unauthorised tournament. If any registered players, coach, technical staff and supportive staff participate in this tournament, the JBA will take action against him.

“As per the guidelines and Clause 21 of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), a registered player, coach, technical staff shall not participate in any tournament that is not approved by the state body or its affiliated district body.  Above mentioned two-day tournament at Jamshedpur is not approved. So the state body would take action under Clause 21 of BAI  if any player, technical staff participates in this unauthorised tournament,”  said  Prabhakar Rao, who is also joint secretary of the badminton national body and chairman of the Para Badminton Association of India.
The Badminton Association of India through its circular (February 26, 2019) has already declared that the ID of players would be deactivated if they participate in any unauthorised tournament.
Newly formed Badminton Association of Jharkhand (BAJ) has organized a two-day boys and girls badminton championship in Jamshedpur from September 18.
BAJ president Dinesh Kumar said for the promotion of badminton in the state, an association has been formed. “Our association (BAJ) was registered two years ago under Society Registration Act 1860 and national level  referees would conduct the tournament,” said Dinesh Kumar. He further added that a district body would be formed soon across the state.
A  retired national badminton player of Jamshedpur while expressing concern over the crisis, said that the formation of the parallel association at Jamshedpur would not last long as it has no recognition from the national body but some registered players, technical staff, supportive staff of course will land in trouble for participating in an unauthorised tournament.
