Dhanbad, Feb 7: The Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) will take action against two senior players of Jamshedpur namely Suraj Kumar and Sadan Ahmad for participating in an unauthorized badminton tournament.
JBA secretary K Prabhakar Rao on Monday said that though no one has complained officially against them, based on photographs and reports the association has taken cognizance of their participation in the unauthorized tournament and would properly initiate action.
Rao, who is also joint secretary of All India Badminton Association (AIBA) said that the state association would discuss the issue on Tuesday and first issue a show-cause notice to both the players for their clarification on alleged participation in the tournament.
“The JBA can’t take action directly. Committee members would discuss and go through proper channels for action,” he said.
Iqbal Ansari of Jamshedpur had earlier leveled partiality charge against the Jharkhand Badminton Association saying that while a player of Dhanbad Ravi Sharma and some other players of state were banned for one year in 2019 for participating in an authorized tournament, the state body has taken no action against Suraj Kumar and Sadan Ahmad of Jamshedpur who last week participated in an unauthorized tournament.
Ansari also expressed surprise that both players of Jamshedpur do daily practice in Mohan Ahuja Memorial Stadium, the headquarter of JBA despite the state body being mum on the matter. “As per rules of AIBA and JBA such an act invites action,” he said.
However, JBA secretary K Prabhakar Rao said that the association would not take action directly albeit it would go the proper way after taking clarification. “I assure action would be taken if they are found guilty,” he said.
Last year also, the JBA had issued a warning of action when a group of people organized an unauthorized badminton tournament in Jamshedpur without taking permission.
