Dumka, Feb 2: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is all set to demonstrate its political might in its annual Jharkhand Diwas programme on Thursday when the party patriarch Shibu Soren will address the midnight rally at the historical Gandhi Maidan here to be attended by thousands of supporters from across the Santhal Pargana.
The event will be attended by the senior JMM leaders, including the chief minister and party’s working president Hemant Soren, his cabinet colleagues from the party, MPs, and MLAs.
However, many assume special significance this time as the party is currently facing challenges not only from the opposition party (BJP) but from within the party itself even as the parliamentary and assembly elections are just a year away.

Notably, the state govt at the organisational level has left no stone unturned to make the event, being the 44th of its kind, a gala one with the entire sub-capital town decked up with dozens of welcome gates which have been named after martyrs and late party leaders, party flags and festoons to welcome around fifty thousand people, including women and children mostly belonging to the tribal community.
Apart from hundreds of buses being hired by the party to ferry supporters, party leaders and aspiring party candidates too were seen leading the convoy of four-wheelers carrying their supporters to reach the divisional headquarters to demonstrate their might in respective areas of their workplaces.
Both JMM chief Shibu Soren and Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who together landed at Dumka airport this afternoon along with other party leaders, will address the midnight rally.
They are likely to highlight the works of the current government and blame the BJP-led central government for what they say to attempt to destabilise it by engaging different central agencies.
Party leaders, including Dumka MLA Basant Soren and others led the party supporters from the local SP College ground in the form of a procession to reach the venue by travelling through the city who carried traditional weapons amidst the beats of traditional drums.

Meanwhile, the dissident party veteran and Borio MLA Lobin Hembrom continued with his scheduled program to organise a mammoth rally right at Bhognadih in Barhet (Sahebganj), which is the CM’s assembly constituency, under the aegis of Jharkhand Bachao Morcha. Bhognadih happens to be the birth place of Sido-Kanho who had led the Santhal rebellion in 1855-56.
Notably, Hembrom came down heavily on Chief Minister Hemant Soren for betraying the electorates in terms of not fulfilling the JMM’s poll promises for which he is antagonising him.
“It is just a trailer and high time that the party should remind its poll promises otherwise the full movie will be displayed at Morabadi ground in Ranchi,” Lobin roared and lambasted senior party functionaries and close aids of the CM for misleading him at the cost of party’s interests.
