Ranchi, April 26: Congress party in Jharkhand claimed to have made a record in membership by adding as many as 7.5 lakh members in just 6 months.

Party’s state president Rajesh Thakur made the claim saying during the last 22 years, the party had not made such a big number of members in six months.

“The figure is 50 percent of the membership target of 15 lakh,” Thakur said.

He said out of the total number of members, 2.8 lakh are associated with the digital platform.

Thakur, who became state president in August last year, sharing the membership figure, said that the party is regularly connected to this grassroots level working by organizing camps and district and block-level meetings.

During the press conference, he also took questions related to allegations being led against the UPA government under the leadership of JMM. On this, he said that those who are making allegations should first focus on the charges of corruption on them before levelling allegations on others.

He said that it is easy to level allegations but proving the same in a court of law is not easy.

Contacted former membership in-charge of Congress in Jharkhand Alok Dubey for his comment on the issue, he said the party needs to work harder if it wants to see Sonia Ji and Rahul Ji in power.

“Target of 7.5 lakh is not big seeing the number of MLAs the party had given in the 2019 assembly election. When the number of MLAs was only six parties and the party was not in power the party had achieved a target of 5.5 lakh members in 2017 now when the number in the 2019 election rose to 18 and the party is in power the membership of 7.5 lakh is not big,” Dubey said.
