Dhanbad, April 7: Last rites of Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto was performed with full state honour on side of River Damodar at his Argali village of Nawadih in Bokaro district, around 77 km away from Ranchi, on Friday evening.
Son Akhilesh Mahto performed the last rites as per family tradition amidst mournful situation. Earlier, mortal remains of Jagarnath Mahto was brought to his house in Argali village from Ranchi.
Four-time Dumri ( Giridih district) MLA of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Jagarnath Mahto had died at MGM Hospital Chennai ( Tamil Nadu) on Thursday morning during treatment. His body was brought to Ranchi and later in the afternoon to his village Argally.
Earlier, Chief minister Hemant Soren, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh, Labour Minister Satyanand Bhokta, DWSD Minister Mithilesh Tahkur, MP Mahua Majhi ( Rajya Sabha), Giridih Sadar MLA Sudivya Kumar, Gandey MLA Sarfaraj Ahmed, Bagodar MLA Binod Singh, Bermo Cong MLA Anup Singh , Dhanbad Tundi JMM MLA Mathura Prasad Mahto reached Argally village and met the family members of the education minister and consoled them.
As the body of the minister came to his village by road from Ranchi in the afternoon thousands of supporters, JMM workers and villagers were chanting different slogans like Long live Jagarnath Mahto.
