Daltonganj, Feb 11: Garhwa police today arrested seven for committing murder and recovered four pistols, one rifle, three muzzle-loaded guns, two rounds of fire of 315 bores, six cell phones and some gunpowder.
The seven have been identified as Hari Chowdhury, Suchit, Niraj, Nandu, Guddu, Anil and Sanjay.
The murder case was difficult and sensitive as the victim Nanhku Chowdhury alias Yashu Chowdhury had his throat slit by for the ‘Hanuman Pie’.
Elaborating on the Hanuman Pie, Garhwa SP Anjani Kumar Jha, “There is a disbelief or superstition about the Hanuman Pie. It is that one who possesses Hanuman Pie gets extra divine power and such a possessor can change the fate of others and himself.”
The deceased Nanhku Chowdhury was believed by the seven to be in possession of the Hanuman Pie and they wanted it from him.
“The deceased was picked up from his house at Bhikhee tola under the Danda police station on February 5 around 10 pm. His throat was slit when they did not find any Hanuman Pie with the deceased,” said Jha.
He said that the seven ran this fear that they all would be recognised by Chowdhury and so with one mind killed him without any remorse.
“The seven wore uniforms to hide their identity. It was all the more to hide from being recognised as two of the seven were of the same Danda police station of the Garhwa district while five were from Palamu,” reminded Jha.
Jha, summing up the case, said, “Hanuman Pie is a kind of coin. People who do Ojha Guni (necromancy) keep it with them. It gives them a kind of divine aura. It is a blatant piece of dark faith. This dark faith took the toll of one life and now seven will languish in jail on charges of kidnapping and murder as Nanhku Chowdhury was first kidnapped made a captive and then brutally done to death by slitting his throat.”
