Jamshedpur, Feb 9: Two workers were killed and another fell seriously ill following being exposed to a dangerous industrial gas in the Rungta Steel plant located at Rajnagar in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district about 35 km away from here.

Those killed were identified as Vishal Kumar Sharma and Rahul Kumar, both residents of the Vaishali district of Bihar, and the one seriously ill was identified as Dinesh Ray who is undergoing treatment at the Tata Main Hospital.

Though the incident took place on Wednesday, it came to the limelight after the family members of the victims reached the Tata Main Hospital today.

All three victims were working inside a closed chamber of the steel plant on Wednesday and had become senseless. Some co-workers had informed about this the company management which rescued them immediately and rushed them to the Tata Main Hospital. At the hospital, the doctors on emergency duty declared Vishal and Rahul dead.

The hospital emergency, however, admitted Dinesh Ray whose condition is still stated to be serious.

A source in the steel plant said that the three workers were exposed to carbon monoxide in the plant.

OC, Rajnagar thana, Chandan Kumar confirmed the deaths caused by the gas leakage at the Rungta Steel and the necessary investigation is on.

“Though two persons have died of getting exposed to industrial gas leakage at the Rungta Steel, we are yet to register a case which is subject to the statement given by the surviving victim, Dinesh Ray who is undergoing treatment at the Tata Main Hospital. We have, however, started the investigation with the cooperation of the factory inspector,” said the OC while talking to lagatar24.com.

Those who died had joined Rungta Steel three months ago, having come from Bihar in search of a job.
