Ranchi, March 21: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday informed the House that his government intended to carry out a study to know the status of vacant posts under the reserved category in different departments so that a proper policy is framed for the recruitment drive.

“The backlog posts are in fact a critical matter for the government. A lot of posts under the reserved category are lying vacant. After the formation of Jharkhand, no policy decision was taken to fill up such posts. But our government has planned to carry out a study during the current fiscal year after which a decision will be taken,” Hemant Soren said.

Soren said this in response to a question raised by MLA Bandhu Tirkey during the CM question hour. JMM MLA Dashrath Gagrai demanded the government to provide jobs and compensation to family members of the persons who during the statehood movement either lost their lives in the police action or became disabled.

Gagrai said that even after the government took a policy decision in this regard, neither a job nor compensation was given to anybody. The MLA referred the instance of Kharsawan police firing in 1948 to prove his point. The Chief Minister said that the government formed a commission to identify such persons and their families who are eligible for the benefit.

“Kharsawan firing is an old case. The government is committed to honour such persons and their families; hence, a commission was formed. In 2016 a district-level meeting was held and two persons were given jobs named Tolo Soi and Singrai Bodara besides a compensation of Rs one lakh was also given,” he said.

On a question related to setting up a bench of Jharkhand High Court in Dumka, Hemant Soren said that the government wanted a bench in Dumka.

“The government is serious about it. This is a policy matter and the government has requested the Chief Justice of the High Court in this regard. The state government is ready to provide infrastructure. But the decision has to be taken by the High Court,” he said.

Deoghar MLA Narayan Das had raised this matter.
