Dhanbad Sept 3: The State government has held a medical practitioner of Dhanbad responsible for the death of a Bokaro patient and directed to initiate steps for cancelling his license.
Joint secretary Vidyanand Sharma Pankaj in the Health department has directed Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh and Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Shyam Kishore Kant to file an FIR against Dr D Chakravarty, who runs a nursing home. He has also directed them to write to the Council of Medical Registration CMR), National Medical Commission (NMC) for cancelling the practicing license of Dr Chakravarty.
The government order came after a high-level committee found the medical negligence of Dr Chakravarty in the treatment of a Bokaro patient. The patient Soni Devi was admitted at Dr Chakravarty’s Dhansar ( Dhanbad) based nursing home on June 7, 2019. When her condition deteriorated she was referred to Medica Ranchi where she died during treatment.
Babloo Singh, the husband of Soni Devi, filed an FIR at Bankmore police station (Dhanbad) against Dr D Chakravarty for medical negligence and the then civil surgeon Dr Gopal Das for manipulating with the medical report.
Interestingly, on the complaint of Babloo Singh, the district health department had also set up a medical board to probe the allegation which gave a clean chit to Dr Chakravarty. Babloo Singh finally lodged complaint to the government and the state-level inquiry committee conducted a probe and submitted a report on July 9, 2021.
The mobile phone of Dr D Chakravarty was found switched off on Friday to get his comment over the action of the state government over the cancellation of his practicing license.
Dhanbad civil surgeon (CS) Dr Shyam Kishore Kant told media persons that a process is being initiated to lodge FIR against Dr Chakravarty as per the directive of the government. This is the first time the state government has directed for cancelling license of a medical practitioner of Dhanbad.
