Ranchi, April 22: Under the Community Awareness and Capacity Building Campaign on Sustainable Water Management at Rural Areas, women from 1500 villages in Jharkhand have been provided training regarding water quality in 2021-22.
Prashant Kumar, Secretary of the Drinking Water & Sanitation Department (DWSD) has said that they are planning to cover more villages in the coming years.
“It is an achievement for us as we have covered 1500 villages in Jharkhand and have provided training to the rural women. We are looking forward to reaching more villages in Jharkhand in the coming years,” he said.
He added that for water testing awareness at the village level, 10,230 water samples have been tested so far by field testing kits and H2S vials through help groups, in which 465 villages have been covered in 2021-22.
He further informed that an important role is being played by rural women and self-help groups in the successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the villages.
The self-help groups are involved in water harvesting, groundwater recharge, water recycling, managing polluted water, water quality monitoring and maintenance of drinking water supply.
The Village Jal and Swachhta Samiti (VWSC) is constantly redefining the community through various activities for the operation and maintenance of the scheme for the collection of monthly water charges and is also increasing the community ownership.
