Ranchi, May 21: Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais in a letter to the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, has informed him about the difficulties faced in implementing the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for the graduates of 2022-23 in the state universities.
The Governor further stated that it is difficult for educationists to follow and implement CUET for the UG programme in the universities of the state from the current session. In view of the problem of tribal students, the governor has further asked the minister to reconsider the decision to implement CUET from the academic session 2022-2023.
The governor wrote that he had received a letter from the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the implementation of CUET from the academic session 2022-23 for admission in undergraduate courses in various universities of Jharkhand. Governor Bais further explained that after this, all the Vice-Chancellors of the state, as well as the Higher Education Department, were instructed to follow the guidelines of the UGC.
He then said that various universities of the state had informed the education department and the governor that there has been difficulty in implementing CUET for the enrollment of students in graduation from the academic session 2022-23.
Notably, the universities have also reported that most of the state’s students do not have a better socio-economic background. The girl students of tribal and backward communities are not in a position to bear the application fee (around 500 to 600) for CUET and this may also increase the number of dropout cases.
The last date to apply for the CUET exam is May 22, 2022, but still, there has been no information about the exam syllabus and exam pattern.
