Ranchi, Feb.23: The Jharkhand High Court today directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to produce an affidavit detailing its actions in the cybercrime cases in the state.

The information sought by the high court in the affidavit includes the recovery of money deceived by   cyber frauds and the arrest of offenders, among other things.

A division bench led by Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra issued the directive while hearing a PIL filed by social activist Manoj Rai asking preventive steps to eliminate cyber fraud operating out of Jharkhand’s Deoghar, Jamtara, and Sahibganj districts.

The high court also named the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) as a respondent in the case and ordered the organisation to file a counter-affidavit outlining its efforts to combat cyber fraud. The high court has ordered that the hearing in the case be postponed until March 16.

Previously, petitioner’s advocate Rajeev Kumar told the court that cyber criminals are active in Jharkhand’s Deoghar, Jamtara, and Sahibganj. According to him, cybercrime is being done on a massive scale from Jharkhand. According to the lawyer, the Jharkhand Police Force has a cyber cell, but it is not very active. In such a setting, cybercriminals’ morale is high, and there is a need to curb them, he added.
