Ranchi, Nov 10: Jharkhand High Court today directed Kanke MLA Samri Lal to reduce the list of witnesses while hearing an election petition.
The high court said if Lal does not reduce the list on his own then it will pass an appropriate order to ensure the same.
The situation came after former MLA Suresh Baitha filed a petition in the court saying Lal contested the election in 2019 on the seat reserved for SC though being non-Jharkhandi migrated from Rajasthan he does not deserve SC status in Jharkhand and
Lal in his reply said he deserves SC status as he is born in Jharkhand and his forefathers also remained associated with the land. In support of his statement, he presented a long list of witnesses.
The court gave the direction after it recorded the statement of one of the witnesses Bulgaria Devi who supported the statement of Lal.
The next date of hearing in the case is November 17.
