Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court today directed Home Secretary Avinas Kumar and DGP A K Singh to strengthen the security in courtrooms across the State.
Taking suo moto cognizance of an attack on a Jamshedpur civil court employee Rakesh Kumar yesterday, a division bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjay Mishra had summoned the home secretary and the DGP today. During the hearing, the State Home Secretary and DGP as well as the DC and SSP of Jamshedpur appeared before the court through virtual medium. The court directed them to make tight security arrangements in all the courts of the state, after which Monday has been fixed for the next hearing of this case.
Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan, on behalf of the state government, assured the court that the government is completely serious about the security of the courts.
Notably, Rakesh Kumar, a court clerk of Jamshedpur Civil Court’s Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay, was attacked with a sharp weapon on Friday. Kumar was seriously injured in this incident. The policemen and lawyers present in the court caught the attacker and handed him over to the police.
