Jharkhand HC reserves judgement in Alimuddin Ansari’s mob lynching case

Ranchi, Sept 21: The Jharkhand High Court today reserved its judgment in an appeal filed by those convicted and sentenced in Alimuddin Ansari’s mob lynching case. The development took place after arguments from all sides were completed in the case in the court of Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay.

Alimuddin, a resident of Manua Fulsarai in Ramgarh district, was murdered on June 29, 2017. He was thrashed to death by a mob on the charge of carrying beef on a Maruti van near the gas agency at Bazar Tand.

Wife of the deceased lodged a named FIR against 12 people. On March 16, 2018, 11 out of 12 accused were convicted, while one of the accused being a minor, his case was sent to the Juvenile Board.

The Court sentenced life imprisonment to Chhotu Verma, Deepak Mishra and Santosh Singh, besides BJP leaders Nityanand Mahto, Vicky Saw, Sikandar Ram, Uttam Ram, Vikram Prasad, Raju Kumar, Rohit Thakur, and Kapil Thakur.

Those sentenced life imprisonment made an appeal against the order before the high court pleading innocence. Victim’s wife also appeared before the court in the case and argued before the court saying that the lower court had rightly convicted them.
