Ranchi, Dec.1: The Jharkhand High Court seized the right of the civic bodies to approve any building plan till further order.
The direction came from the division bench headed by Justice S Chandrasekhar after it took suo moto cognizance in the matter of irregularities in the approval of building plans in the municipal bodies.
Before the court seized the power, it reprimanded the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) municipal commissioner and Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) vice chairman for irregularities in building plan approvals. The court was of the opinion that there should be proper transparency in the process of approval of building plans.
The court expressed its concern over the staff crunch in RMC and RRDA verbally observing that no appointment has been made in these bodies since 1982 and appointments are made on a contract basis.
The next hearing will take place on the matter on Dec 7.
The court had taken suo moto cognizance after it noticed a report suggesting that the municipal bodies charge Rs 20-30 square beside the requisite fee of Rs 8 per square foot.
