Ranchi, Oct.12: The Jharkhand High Court has taken suo moto cognizance in the matter of the Tana Bhagat ruckus in the Latehar civil court premises on Monday.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan took the cognizance based on a media report.
The court summoned the state’s DGP and chief secretary for their response in the matter. The high court directed them to file a report on the matter by next week. Both officers have also been asked to improve the security of the Latehar Civil Court.
The next hearing on the matter will take place on October 20.
The situation arose after five policemen including Latehar Sadar police station in-charge Amit Kumar Gupta and constables, Satyanarayan Oraon, Kumari Amit Lakshmi, Anju Rose Khalkho and Manorama Kumari sustained injured after Tana Bhagat, organized under the aegis of All India Tana Bhagat Sangh, pelted stone and damaged PCR van and police resorted to lathi charge, use of tear gas and water cannons to bring them under control.
The situation came after Tana Bhagat, who are known as a true follower of Mahatma Gandhi, laid a siege on Latehar Civil Court demanding its closure for being in the fifth schedule area and raised slogans in support of their demands.
