Ranchi, June 29: The Jharkhand High Court today directed Home Secretary Rajeev Arun Ekka to improve electronic surveillance of the court premises across the state.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice S.N.Prasad gave the direction as Ekka turned up before it in accordance with the court direction given on Tuesday to let the court know about the steps taken by the state for security of witnesses.
The court directed him to pay proper attention to installation and maintenance of CCTVs in the court premises.
The development took place after the court on June 9 took suo-moto cognisance of the murder of a witness, Manpreet Singh, in Jamshedpur.
Three armed assailants shot dead 22-yr-old Singh in his house at Post Office Road in Shiv Singh Bagan area of Sidhgora around 4.30 pm on June 8 after he returned from the court after being examined as a witness of an incident of shoot out. He was about to go back to Punjab where he pursued higher education. Assailants pumped several bullets into his body to eliminate him. The sensational incident evoked sharp criticism from the Sikh community as many citizens blamed police for the lawlessness.
