Ranchi, May 2: The Jharkhand High Court today gave the last opportunity to the Jharkhand assembly secretariat to file its reply in a PIL involving allotment of Namaz room in the assembly building.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra gave the opportunity while verbally asking the basis on which the decision for allotment of a room for offering Namaz was given.

The matter will now be heard on May 18.

Ajay Kumar Modi had filed the petition. Advocate Naveen Kumar argued on his behalf.

The matter arose after in the year 2021, a room was allotted for the minorities in the Jharkhand Assembly building to offer Namaz and the BJP, which is the main opposition party of the state, took strong exception to this. This struck a controversy between the ruling party and the opposition.
