Dhanbad, Dec 20: In the wake of cheating former vice-chancellor of Hyderabad University, the Jharkhand police launched simultaneous raids on hideouts of fraudsters in Deoghar, Jamtara and Giridih districts and arrested 21 of them in the last 24 hours.
Official sources said that cyber criminals cheated Rs 1.20 lakh from the bank account of former vice-chancellor of Hyderabad University Rameswar Rao. In this regard, an FIR was lodged in Cyberabad (Telangana) cyber police station. The fraudulent link sent to him was found to be from Deoghar.
According to sources, money was transferred (Rs 50,000) in SBI branch Madhupur, Rs 50,000 in HDFC branch and Rs 20,000 in Small Scale Industries account. However, Deoghar police recovered the cheated money in a swift action.
On the basis of information by Hyderabad police, the Jharkhand police cracked down simultaneously in three districts and arrested the cyber criminals from Deoghar (11), Jamtara (8) and Giridih (2) in a 24-hours operation.
Deoghar Superintendent of Police (SP) Dhananjay Kumar Singh set up a team under Deputy Superintendent of Police Mangal Singh Jamuna (cyber police station) and arrested 11 fraudsters from different locations of the district. Police also seized 22 mobile phones, 35 sim cards, four passbooks, one laptop and Rs 32,000 cash from them.
Jamtara district police also launched an operation and nabbed eight fraudsters from areas of Karmatand police station, Narayanpur police station, Ahilyapur police station, Tarantand police station, and Fatehpur police station.
Eight mobile phones, 21 sim cards , five ATM cards, one chequebook and cash of Rs 1000 cash were recovered from them.
