Ranchi, Dec.5: The Jharkhand police today forced Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s representative turned ED accused Pankaj Mishra to leave Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and shifted to to Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP). He was staying at RIMS against medical advice of doctors.
A RIMS insider informed about the development saying he noticed Mishra being taken by police from the old emergency unit of the institute.
“First I could not understand why an ED accused is being taken in a disrespectful manner but later came to know he was staying at RIMS though the doctor had discharged him on November 30 and referred CIP. Jail authorities attempted to take Mishra to CIP but he was not ready to be shifted there,” the insider said.
Mishra was arrested on July 19 for laundering money earned by illegal mining. The development took place after the central agency unearthed Rs 11.88 crore in 37 accounts of Mishra.
Mishra was brought to RIMS following a complaint of abdominal pain on July 29. Since then he has been there. The ED observed that despite being in judicial custody as an accused Mishra is enjoying all the facilities and has access to phone. The ED also observed that Mishra received and made more than 300 calls and managed everything from the hospital.
A medical board advised Mishra to undergo treatment at the drug de-addiction centre. The treating doctors have told before the medical board that he gets uneasiness when given mild pain reliever fortwin (banned drug).
Coincidentally, the development took place when the ED was questioning a police official and Birsa Munda Jail superintendent who allegedly gave clean chit to Mishra.
