SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Sept 20: Police have picked up 13 suspected cybercriminals of Andhra Pradesh from a coal city-based call centre for interrogation on Monday.

Inspector of cyber police station Navin Ray said that all 13 suspects have been taken into custody for interrogation regarding their involvement in cybercrime. Police are also verifying their identity with the Andhra Pradesh police in Hyderabad.

“Only after getting proof of their involvement police would lodge an FIR against them,” said cyber inspector to media persons. Police suspected that cybercrime was being done under the cover of the call centre.

Police officials said that a team of Sadar police station under Sub Inspector (SI) Rajnish Kumar raided a call centre in Basera apartment in Bekar Bandh area under Sadar police station early this morning.

The police team took 13 youths in custody and seized their mobile phones, ATM card, Aadhar card, laptop and electronic gadgets from their possession from the call centre room.  The nabbed youth failed to convince the police of the reason behind arriving at Dhanbad from different areas of Andhra Pradesh.

Police officials said the call centre had been functioning for the last six months. The operator of the call centre managed to escape before police arrived at the Basera apartment. Officials said police are searching for the mastermind of the cyber syndicate. The information came to police headquarters that cybercriminals are concentrated in Dhanbad following the police action in Jamtara, Deoghar and Giridih district of Jharkhand.
