Ranchi, June 22: Seven years after the incident of a collective suicide here, the Ranchi police arrested a lady finding her responsible for the incident.

The lady, Mauritania Sarkar, is the daughter-in-law of the family. The Police arrested her from Kolkata in West Bengal.  She is being brought to the Jharkhand capital on transit remand.  According to the police, the lady had registered several cases against her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and other family members. During the investigation, slips recovered from the spot indicate her role.

The incident took place on October 9, 2016. Six people had committed suicide in flat no 102 of Reversa Apartment under the Sadar police station area. The six people included Sukanto Sarkar, his wife Anjali Sarkar, Son Sumit Sarkar, Sumit’s daughter Samita Sarkar, Parthiv Sarkar’s wife Moumita Sarkar and Moumita’s daughter Samita Sarkar.

The bodies of Dr Sukant Sarkar’s wife Anjali Sarkar, son Sumit Sarkar, Sumit’s daughter Samita Sarkar, Parthiv Sarkar’s wife Moumita Sarkar and Moumita’s daughter Samita Sarkar were found in the same room while Dr Sukant Sarkar was found in the room in an injured state. Sukant died during treatment.

The police investigation has revealed that it was Sukant Sarkar who killed his five family members by giving injections and then committed suicide himself. During the investigation of the flat, the police also found many slips suggesting that the reason behind the incident was daughter-in-law Madhumita Sarkar, as she had registered several cases against her own husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law and other family members.
