Ranchi, March 3: A ray of hope has emerged from the Sakhi Mandals of Aajeevika Mission that new dimensions of village development can be established through them, said Suraj Kumar, the CEO of Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS).
Suraj Kumar was addressing a two-day workshop which was organized by the JSLPS and The Nudge Foundation for the development of very poor families of the state.
The workshop aimed to prepare an action plan to ensure a sustainable livelihood for the marginalized communities including the very poor families by connecting them in the mainstream. Identifying ways to ensure the identification of very poor families through community organizations and initiatives to connect very poor families with development through the graduation approach were discussed.
It is necessary to work for the development of the marginalized sections, especially for those families of the state which are still deprived and neglected and are living in difficult conditions. The development on the ground is not possible without the empowerment of half the population of women. Continuous work is being done under the Udan project for PVTG development in different districts of Jharkhand,” Suraj said.
Usha Rani, representative of the Ministry of Rural Development said that given the abundance of PVTG families in the state of Jharkhand, a lot remains to be done to improve their economic and social condition.
“UDAN project through JSLPS has been started for the development of PVTG families. This workshop is the first step towards formulating a national-level strategy for the development of very poor families. Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission, the Ministry of Rural Development is committed to working under a special strategy for the development of very poor and deprived families in all the states of the country. JSLPS is working with a good strategy against PVTG development and witch malpractices. There is a need to ensure social inclusion through Sakhi Mandals in the state of Jharkhand so that no very poor family remains away from development, this initiative will prove to be a milestone in this direction,” Usha said.
John Paul, Director of The Nudge Foundation said, “We all have to work together for the development of very poor families across the country. Together with the Ministry of Rural Development, we aim to fulfil the goal of the economic and social development of poor families. JSLPS has done a good job in the development of PVTG families. We hope that through this initiative in Jharkhand, we will be able to prepare a new plan for the development of very poor families.”
