Dhanbad, Aug 3: Jharkhand State Senior and Under-19 Badminton Championship would be played at Mohan Ahuja Memorial Stadium in Jamshedpur from August 12 to 14.

Giving this information, a senior office-bearer of the Jharkhand Badminton Association said that in the three-day championship, men and women singles, doubles and mixed doubles and Under-19 boys and girls singles, doubles and mixed double events will be played.

Jamshedpur, which is called the badminton hub of the state, is organizing a championship for the state after three years. Due to the Corona pandemic, no state championship was held here in 2020-21. After Covid-19, Dumka, Hazaribagh and Dhanbad hosted the state championships.

The official said that General Secretary K Prabhakar Rao will announce a detailed programme of the championship soon. On the basis of performance in this tournament, the players of Jharkhand will be selected for the East Zone Badminton Championship which is scheduled to be held in September.

Later, the East Zone Badminton Championship winners and runners of the single event and winners of doubles and mixed doubles would be selected for the state team.

The official said a total of 150 players in the Senior and Under-19 events are expected to participate in this state championship. “There is no limitation of participation. Each district can send interested players at its wishes,” he said.

State General Secretary K Prabhakar Rao, who is also the joint secretary of the All-India Badminton Association, has set up an organizing committee for the championship to be successful.
