Jharkhand TT Championship: Bokaro’s Shivaji, Jamshedpur’s Sania emerge champs

Dhanbad, Oct 28: Shivaji Roy of Bokaro and Sania Banerjee of Jamshedpur clinched the singles title of men’s and women’s respectively in the 23rd Jharkhand State Table Tennis Championship which concluded at  Koyla Nagar Nehru Sports Complex on Sunday evening.

In the men’s singles final, Shivaji Roy defeated Ranchi’s Santrujay Chakraborty in four sets to maintain his supremacy in the state table tennis while in the women’s singles final, Sania Banerjee of  Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum) beat Aayushi Kumari of Garhwa district (4-1).

Ranchi’s Santrujay Chakraborty and Dhanbad’s Srijani Chatterjee also got the honour of winning the singles title of under-19  boys’ and girls’ events respectively.

In the final of boys’ under -19 singles, Santrujay Chakraborty trounced Nitish Kumar Mehta of Garhwa in straight sets (4-0) while in the girls’ section, Srijani Chatterjee of Dhanbad beat Aayushi Kumari Pandey (4-1).

In the boys’ under -17 final  Nitish Kumar Mehta defeated  Anil Kumar Mehta in the final while in the girls’ under-17 singles final, Archita Dey of Jamshedpur overcame Anjali Kumari in four sets.

In the final, the Chief Vigilance Officer of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL)  Aman Raj was the chief guest in the closing ceremony and he gave away trophies and prizes to winners as well runners up of the championship.

He highly appreciated the arrangement of the Dhanbad Table Tennis  Association for the championship and said that proper facilities draw participants in large numbers.

KSB  Chandramolly,  chief patron of the State Table Tennis Association,  JK Sinha, vice-president Sabal  Gupta, general secretary Samarjit Singh ( former Bihar champion) , assistant secretary Sudipta Mukherjee, Rakesh Kumar Mishra, MV Parthsarthi ( former Bihar champion), Neeraj Kumar, Dhanbad Table Tennis Association secretary Saket Sinha, treasurer Ajay Mahajan, Binod Kumar Sinha, Sanjiv Sagar Chirag Mahajan, Kripa Shankar were also present on the occasion.

National and state panel referee Kiran Bihari Shukla (chief referee),  Sandeep Saha, Kamlesh Kumar Dubey, Anjali Rani, LN Mitra,  Ravindra Kumar, Gokul Kumar, Swati Kumari, Vaibhav Sharma, CK Singh and Ashish Banerjee conducted the matches.
