Jamshedpur, Dec 14: The prevailing weather seems to be behaving strangely as the minimum readings in most parts of the state recorded three to six notches above normal despite a clear sky.
Statistics revealed that Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of around 16 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal while Jamshedpur recorded around 17 degrees, five notches above normal.
Daltonganj, Giridih and Ramgarh recorded around 14 degrees Celsius, two to three notches above normal. Khunti recorded the lowest minimum temperature of around 12 degrees Celsius.
The weatherman said no significant synoptic features were prevailing over Jharkhand and that light North Westerly wind was prevailing in the lower layers of the atmosphere.
“We are finding a peculiarity in weather conditions as despite clear whether the Celsius is notching three to six notches above normal during this time of the year. December is the peak winter month but the intense chill is lacking so far. Global warming and several other factors contribute to such a situation, ” explained a senior weather official at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre.
According to statistics, last year the chill was intense during this time of December. In mid-December last year sub-10 chill was prevailing at several isolated pockets of the state.
Weathermen predicted clear weather for the next five days with fog and mist in the morning.
However, weathermen said the minimum reading was expected to witness a fall from tomorrow due to the free flow of north-westerly wind.
