Dhanbad, Sept 14: Dr NK Singh of Dhanbad and Dr Anil Kumar Virmani of Jamshedpur have been elected as executive members of the Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI). RSSDI is the largest body of diabetes specialists in the country which has over 10,000 members.
The result of the RSSDI national poll declared on Tuesday evening Dr NK Singh got 940 votes and was declared elected national executive body member while Dr Anil Kumar Virmani got 522 votes and won the seat of Eastern Zonal executive member.

This is the first time in 22 years of Jharkhand that any doctor of state had contested the RSSDI national election and became an executive member of the national committee.
Dr NK Singh is the chairman of the Jharkhand chapter of RSSDI also. He and Dr Virmani had contested the national election for the first time.
The election was conducted online by the National Database (NDS) of the Government of India. Since voters were across the country, RSSDI had assigned the election responsibility to NDS.
Dr Rakesh Sahay of Hyderabad was elected president while Dr Sujoy Ghosh (Kolkata), and Dr Sreenivasa Murthy l (Bangaluru) were elected vice-presidents unopposed.
Dr Sanjay Agrawal (Pune) and Dr Jugal Kishore Sharma (Delhi) were also elected unopposed secretary and treasurer respectively.
“Of course, it is a great honour for Jharkhand as its two doctors have been elected national executive members in RSSDI for the first time,” said a senior doctor of Ranchi.
Dr NK Singh and Dr Anil Kumar Virmani both are founder members RSSDI Jharkhand chapter. The victory of these two doctors in the national election would establish the identity and influence of Jharkhand in the field of diabetes research and treatment of patients at the national level.
Dr NK Singh said being a national executive member he would work for the entire nation but his focus of the course would be in Jharkhand without a doubt.
“Besides giving funds for research in Jharkhand, the special drive would also be launched for protection of people from diabetes and treatment of affected patients in rural and urban pockets of state”, he said.
Dr NK Singh not only runs awareness drives in the state and surveys of diabetes patients status time to time but also has made a national platform of the CME programme and shares the research on diabetes with experts across the country
