Hazaribag, Sept 29: The land for the construction of the first-ever high-security special jail of the state to keep hardcore extremists to dreaded criminals and also terrorists has been finalised in Hazaribag. After getting a medical college and the first open jail here, the district will get this high-security jail, the first of its kind in the state.

The state government had asked the district administration and authorities of Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail to search for a minimum of 25 acres of land for this purpose. Officials have finalised two plots but one which is best for this project is behind the central jail and is a 50-acre plot.

Jail officials confirmed to lagatar24.com that they had finally informed the government about the availability of two plots in the town for this purpose. One plot is situated between the open jail and JAP-7 camp. Another one is behind the central jail which is best for this project having 50 acres of land. If this new jail is constructed here, it will have central jail on one side and an open jail on the other side making it like a fort on security counts.

According to them, this high-security special jail will have a separate superintendent and jailers for its functioning beside other staff. Its campus will even have an administrative building, and quarters for officials and other staff.

Sources said with officials finalising land for this purpose, its detailed project report will get ready soon ensuring the start of the work. At present, the state has seven central jails and 23 district jails. Once the high-security special jail gets ready, all hardcore extremists to dreaded criminals and terrorists, if any, will be shifted here.

Jail superintendent Kumar Chandrashekhar confirmed sending details of the selected lands to the state government for further action in this regard. “It is a big project for the state and Hazaribag as well,” he added.
