Ranchi, Nov.12: JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya today expressed his discontent over the mere declaration of Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas by the union government.
If the government really wants to do something to glorify tribals it should repeal all projects involving land of tribal icon, provide Sarna religion code in the census form, properly implement PESA, stop selling the airport named after the tribal icon Birsa Munda, stop perpetuating atrocity against tribals, give scheduled tribe status to tea tribes of Assam, Bhattacharya said during his half an hour-long press conference at his party office.
During the BJP rule in Jharkhand, an investors’ meet, Momentum Jharkhand, was organised in the state. Referring to this event, Bhattacharya said the event was organised by using funds of tribal sub-plan and questioned the intention of the union government saying ‘whom the union government is cheating.’
Bhattacharya said the day of glory for the tribals will come only when the provision of schedules V and VI of the Indian constitution is implemented literally where it is applicable.
On one hand, Bhattacharya said, the BJP government registered a case for sedition against the tribes agitating for implementation of their traditional law while on the other hand it is talking about Gaurav Diwas. It is like shedding crocodile tears, he added.
