Jamshedpur, Aug 10: Very soon Steel City of Jamshedpur will come under the purview of drone mapping, the pilot project of which has already begun.
Urban civic body – Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC) – which along with Jusco, a Tata Steel subsidiary looks after the upkeep of Steel City has on a pilot basis started Drone Mapping Control System in Jamshedpur.
Such an initiative is the first in the state.
” The move is aimed at preparing the city for the future. The drone mapping will help us in checking encroachments and other illegal activities. It will also help in proper traffic, drainage, and implementing other civic amenities in a proper and systematic manner, ” said Ravi Bharti, a JNAC official.
Significantly, drone mapping is the process of surveying an area of land with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
An operator flies the drone over an area of land, taking hundreds of pictures as it moves. Then, with the help of computer software, they stitch and layer the images, creating a model of the site.
JNAC officials explained that drone mapping can solve several issues.
” A highly detailed aerial map allows for insight into the property and civic-related details without requiring a client to be there in person, ” explained an official.
