Ranchi: In a major action, the Jharkhand government has dismissed Kanu Ram Nag, an officer from the second batch of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), for securing his position by submitting a fraudulent caste certificate. Nag had falsely claimed to belong to the Munda tribe, which falls under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. However, subsequent investigations revealed that he actually belongs to the Tamadiya caste, which is categorized under the Extremely Backward Class (EBC).

Initial Caste Verification Allowed Suspension to be Lifted

Earlier, Nag was suspended when questions regarding his caste certificate surfaced. However, the Caste Verification Committee’s report at that time allowed his suspension to be lifted. The report indicated that Tamadiya could be considered a sub-caste of the Munda tribe, thereby qualifying him for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe category. On this basis, Nag had been reinstated to his position, with the suspension removed.

Further Government Review Confirms Fraud

Despite the initial verification, the Jharkhand government undertook a more detailed review of the case. The departmental inquiry concluded that although the Munda tribe and some of its sub-castes are indeed recognized under the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order of 1950, the Tamadiya caste was not part of this listing at the time of Nag’s application or his appointment. The review further established that Nag had obtained the ST certificate falsely, by misrepresenting Tamadiya as a sub-caste of Munda. As per the law, the caste certificate he submitted was therefore fraudulent.

Officer Posted as Deputy Election Officer in Palamu

Kanu Ram Nag, who was serving as the Deputy Election Officer in Palamu, has now been dismissed following the government’s final decision. The Personnel Department has issued an official order regarding his dismissal, bringing his service to an end due to the submission of false documentation.

Caste Certificate Fraud: A Serious Offense

The case highlights the serious legal consequences of misusing caste certificates in India. The government’s action sends a clear message about the integrity required in public services and the accountability expected from government officers.
