Kabul Gurdwara blast: Two die, many feared trapped; Guru Granth Sahib removed safely

Kabul, June 18: Two persons died and many are feared trapped inside the premises after the Gurdwara Karte Parwan in Kabul, Afghanistan was attacked by terrorists on Saturday morning.

Multiple explosions were recorded on the premises.The incident is thought to have been carried out by ISIS Khorasan. The situation is being monitored by the Ministry of External Affairs. According to reports, the Gurdwara’s whole premises were set on fire.

The attack began around 7:15 a.m. in Kabul (8.30 am India time). In the event, a 60-year-old man named Sawinder Singh and the Gurudwara’s guard were slain, while three Taliban soldiers were wounded.

“I heard gunshots and blasts coming from the gurdwara,” Gurnam Singh, a Sikh community leader told AFP.

Taliban soldiers also trapped two assailants. At least 7-8 people are still believed to be trapped inside, while the exact number is unknown.

According to sources, 25-30 Afghan Hindus and Sikhs were present in the Gurudwara for morning prayers, and just 10-15 were able to run as the attackers entered the premises. The remainder are either trapped inside or feared dead.

Meanwhile, Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs, has been safely transported from Gurdwara Karte Parwan in Kabul, where a terrorist attack occurred today. Afghan Sikhs reportedly entered the Gurdwara premises, which was on fire, to save the book, according to reports.

They transported the sacred book to Gurnam Singh’s house to keep it safe and worship it according to its holiness and values.
