New Delhi, Nov 3: For the first time since the award’s introduction, former India captain Virat Kohli was nominated for the ICC Player of the Month for men. David Miller of South Africa and Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe were also nominated for their performances in the current T20 World Cup 2022, along with Kohli.
Along with Pakistan’s Nida Dar for their heroics at the Asia Cup, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma of India have also been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award for women.
The favourite to receive the award is Virat Kohli, who has been dominating for India at the T20 World Cup. Kohli has maintained his strong performance in the World Cup in Australia after overcoming a rough stretch with two fifty-plus scores and a century in the Asia Cup.
In the month of October, Kohli amassed 205 runs in T20Is. He also produced two fifty-scores during the T20 World Cup, one of which being a pivotal 82 not out against Pakistan in their Super 12 opener in Melbourne. India started their T20 World Cup campaign off strong against the Netherlands with to Kohli’s game-winning 62.
However, David Miller received a nomination for both his heroics in India during a bilateral series prior to the World Cup and his game-winning strike against India in their Super 12 match in Perth.
Miller began the month by hitting 117 runs across three one-day internationals (ODIs) and 125 runs in two twenty-over internationals (T20Is), including a punishing performance of 106 not out in 79 balls in Guwahati. The T20 World Cup continued with this scorching form.
Sikandar Raza was also nominated for the award in recognition of his valiant efforts that helped Zimbabwe defeat Pakistan at the T20 World Cup and advance from Round 1 to the Super 12. Notably, Raza also received the honour in August.
He played in six T20Is, scoring 145 runs and grabbing nine wickets at an impressive average of 14.66. He received three Player of the Match honours, including one for his role in the victories over Ireland (82 not out) and the unexpected victory over Pakistan (3 for 25).
