Jamshedpur, Aug 31: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a forecast of light rain in southern Jharkhand today while the rest of the state is expected to remain dry.
“Most parts of Jharkhand will be devoid of rainfall activity for the next few days as the monsoon trough has shifted towards the foothills of the Himalayas. Until and unless the trough gets restored, the state will be deprived of widespread and heavy rains, ” said an official at Ranchi Met Centre.
The western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to run along the foothills of the Himalayas and the eastern end was passing through Gorakhpur, Patna, Bankura, Digha and thence south eastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal.
A cyclonic circulation over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood now lies over northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestward with height.
As of today, Jharkhand as a whole was facing a rain deficit of 36 per cent. Several districts were facing a rain deficit of more than 50 per cent.
