Jamshedpur, July 6: Be ready with your umbrellas and rain gears as the meteorological department has predicted rain at main places today.
IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre has predicted light to moderate rain at many places over Jharkhand on Thursday.
The Met Centre also issued an alert of heavy rain at a few isolated areas in southern and central Jharkhand during the next two days.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Bikaner, Churu, Guna, Sidhi, Ambikapur, Balasore and thence southeastwards to Central Bay of Bengal.
A cyclonic circulation over central parts of Uttar Pradesh persists and is now seen at 3.1 km above mean sea level, said weathermen at Ranchi Met Centre.
Light to moderate rain was observed at many places while heavy rain was also observed at isolated places over the state during the past 48 hours.
Weathermen said the monsoon activity was normal over the state.
The highest rainfall recorded was 95 mm at Nawadih (Bokaro) in the past 48 hours.
The highest maximum temperature of 36.4°C was recorded at Chaibasa while the lowest minimum temperature of 23.3°C was recorded at Ranchi in the past 24 hours.
Rainfall has been insufficient so far this year after the onset of the monsoon. As of today, the state was facing a rain deficit of 38 per cent.
According to rain statistics available from Ranchi Met Centre, Jharkhand as a whole has so far received 147 mm of rain against a normal of 236 mm, thus resulting in a 38 per cent deficit.
Weathermen were hopeful that rainfall during this month will help in compensating for the deficit.
