Mumbai, May 3: A case has been filed against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) head Raj Thackeray and the organisers of a public assembly in Aurangabad over the former’s speech, during which he is believed to have exhorted his supporters to ‘mute the loudspeakers atop mosques’, according to news agency ANI.
After witnessing the viral videos of the MNS chief’s remarks, the Aurangabad Police filed a complaint against him.
The Aurangabad police commissioner would take proper legal action against Raj Thackeray for his remarks against loudspeakers atop mosques, according to Maharashtra police head Rajnish Seth.
Over 13,000 people have received notices under section 149 of the Criminal Procedure Code (preventing cognizable offences), he claimed.
Seth stated that police are prepared to maintain law and order in the state, and that anyone attempting to disrupt communal harmony will face severe consequences. He stated that all police leave has been cancelled.
According to him, police are well equipped to deal with the situation in the state and have been given explicit orders to take strong action against individuals who are causing disturbance. To avert any unpleasant incidents, police have taken preventative measures against anti-social elements, he said.
