Majhgaon, June 4: The mischief of wild elephants continues in the village Buruikuti under the Ghodabandha panchayat of Majhgaon block. For the third time in 15 days, herds of wild elephants have entered the village. Elephants are targetting and breaking the houses of poor villagers and eating the paddy and rice kept in it. Not only this, the poor farmers had planted vegetables with great difficulty. But the herd of wild elephants damaged the vegetable cultivation. On Saturday evening, after separating from the herd, the wild elephants left the house of Hevi Jerai, a resident of Buruikuti, and ate two paddy kept in the house, and rice kept for the rainy month. Due to this, the farmer suffered a loss of 25 to 30 thousand rupees.
A herd of 16 wild elephants are encamped around Pokharia forest of Majhgaon block. Three days back, a herd of wild elephants created a ruckus in the village by breaking more than half a dozen houses and damaging the paddy, rice and materials kept in it. Now again elephants are threatening in the same village in the daytime. Due to this, there is an atmosphere of panic among the people of the area. The people of the houses adjacent to the forest are leaving their homes and taking shelter in other houses. The villagers of the area are forced to stay awake during the night. Due to this hundreds of families are facing problems. Even now a herd of elephants is camping in the nearby forest. Panchayat head Vivekananda Purti has assured to provide compensation to the affected families from the forest department by helping them with their immediate needs. The Mukhiya has informed the forest department about the incident.
