Jamshedpur, July 19: A 33-year-old man drowned at Baroda Ghat in the Kharkai river while performing a ‘Shradh’ ritual along the Bagbera thana area on Tuesday evening.
Identified as Raja Munda, the victim was swept away in the current of the swollen river after he had taken a customary plunge into the water body.
The police have on Wednesday morning engaged a couple of divers for searching the body after making efforts for a short while to find it last evening.
A woman who was at the Baroda Ghat had watched the man drown in the river and had subsequently spread the information across the locality. But by the time, the police reached the spot it was too late.
The police had, however, found the clothes belonging to the victim lying on the bank of the river ghat.
The victim was a resident of Gandhinagar in Bagbera and would earn a living by driving a mini-truck.
“We are trying to trace the body of Raja Munda from the Kharkai river and for this divers have been pressed into service, ” said the Bagbera thana OC, Koishelendra Jha while talking to lagatar24.com.
