Imphal, June 30: N Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of the state of Manipur, has opted not to step down on June 30 following tense drama outside his home.
It should be noted that a sizable crowd gathered in front of CM Biren Singh’s house to protest his decision to resign. Supporters were seen pleading with him not to step down.
In the midst of unrest in the northeastern state, several women supporters tore up N Biren Singh’s resignation letter on Friday. In order to meet with Governor Anusuiya Uikey, the CM was supposed to go to Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
The women outside Raj Bhavan, however, prevented his caravan from moving, blocking the route. They are shown on video tearing apart his letter of resignation after they requested him not to leave his position as chief minister.
As per sources, the Chief Minister was told that he could resign or else the Centre would take over. Instead, the Chief Minister was requested to “take a firm stand against the troublemakers.”
Three persons were killed and five injured on Thursday in Manipur as a result of renewed violence. This sparked rumours about N Biren Singh’s potential resignation as Chief Minister.
Kshetrimayum Shanti, a women leader said, “At this critical juncture, the Biren Singh government should stand firm and crack down on troublemakers.”
