Ranchi, April 6: Maoist Suraj Nath Kherwar, who joined left-wing extremism following the decision of villagers at the age of 13 years in 2013-14 and rose to the rank of area commander, today surrendered before the deputy commissioner, superintendent of police of Lohardaga and CRPF 158 battalion commandant.

Kherwar,  a resident of Bulbul under Peshrar police station, who could not pursue his education after Class I due to poverty, had left the organisation secretly on March 9 this year following police pressure and non-co-operation from his organisation.

Superintendent of police Priyanka Meena said Kherwar who is wanted in as many as 8 cases of Naxal violence, will have to face trial in all the cases.

Sharing how villagers decided to send him with extremists, Kherwar said: “The squad of Ravindra Ganjhu demanded one youth from each village and villagers selected me for them though my parents were not willing for the same.”

Kherwar remained part of the squads of Nakul Yadav, Sudhakaran Reddy and had witnessed many friends falling prey to security personnel’s bullets in the encounter.

Kherwar is the 26th Maoist who surrendered in Lohardaga.
