Ranchi, Feb. 25: The dreaded rebel of CPI (Maoist) Bimal Yadav surrendered before Jharkhand Police on Friday in Ranchi. A member of the Special Area Committee of the CPI (Maoist), he carries a cash prize of Rs 25 Lakh. He surrendered at the Ranchi Zonal IG office and will be given due benefit under the Naxal Surrender Policy of the Jharkhand government.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that he actually had surrendered before the police in September last year. But it was not disclosed by the police.

A native of the Jehanabad district of Bihar, he was wanted in as many as 25 Naxal cases in Jharkhand. He is also wanted in a number of Naxal cases in Bihar.  He had executed or was part of the many major attacks on the security forces.

45 years old Bimal Yadav joined Majdoor Sangram Kisan Samiti in 1994-95 which is a frontal organization of the CPI (Maoist). In 1999 he met top Maoist Arvind and became a courier. In 2005 he was elevated as sub zonal commander and zonal commander in 2009. In 2011 he was included in the Regional Committee of the CPI (Maoist) and in 2014 he became a member of the Special Area Committee of the CPI (Maoist).

He was arrested by Bihar police twice in 2010 and 2012. But every time after release from jail he joined the outfit and

He was heading the activity of the CPI (Maoist) in the Budha Pahad area after the death of Arvind in March 2018. He became the second man in the CPI (Maoist) after Sudhakaran. He became the platoon in charge after Sudhakaran surrendered before the police. The Budha Pahad range is considered to be the stronghold of the Maoists. But after the central committee of the CPI (Maoist) withdrew him from the charge and replaced him with Mithilesh Mehta, he decided to quit.

Bimal Yadav was not enjoying any good relationship with Mithilesh Mehta and another top Maoist Mritunjaya Bhuiyan. Reportedly when he came to the Budha Pahad from his hideout Chhakarbandha, Mithilesh Mehta had seized his weapons.

IG AV Homkar said that Bimal Yadav will be given benefits under the surrender policy. He said that Bimal Yadav was disillusioned with the ideology of the CPI (Maoist).
