Ranchi, May 4:  Maoist regional commander Indal Ganjhu surrendered before the Jharkhand Police today at the Zonal IG’s office in the Jharkhand capital. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 15 lakh cash on his head.

Originally a resident of Asrian village under Imamganj police station of Bihar’s Gaya district, Indal was wanted in 145 cases of waging war against the state in different police stations in Jharkhand and Bihar.

Those present during the surrender of the top Maoist leader included IG (operation) A.V Homkar, Zonal IG Pankaj Kamboj, CRPF IG Vidhi Kumar, Hazaribagh DIG Narendra Singh and Chatra SP Rakesh Ranjan.

IG (operation) Homkar said the surrender is a big blow to the Naxal movement in the state. He on the occasion reiterated the Jharkhand government’s commitment to make the state Naxal-free and shared the work being done by the state police to do the same.

“To bring this resolution on the ground, a continuous campaign is being run and in this direction, the police are also getting success against Naxalite organizations. On the other hand, in order to return the stray Naxalites to the mainstream, wide publicity is being given to the state government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, Nai Disha. Its aim is to integrate the Naxalites into the mainstream of society, who for some reason have strayed into the wrong path of Naxalism. In this sequence, Indal Ganjhu alias Lalan Ganjhu alias Uma alias Badhan has surrendered. His surrender has given a big blow to the CPI Maoists,” he said.
