Massive Crackdown On Power Theft In Jharkhand: 1,297 FIRs Lodged, ₹2.15 Crore Penalty Imposed

Ranchi: The Anti Power Theft (APT) team of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam has launched an intensive state-wide campaign against power theft. Over the past three days (October 7, 8, and 9), the APT team conducted raids at 8,893 premises between 8 am and 6 pm. As a result, 1,297 FIRs were filed against consumers, and a total penalty of ₹2.15 crore was imposed.

Statewide Raids Involving 119 Teams

The raid operation involved 119 teams constituted by the headquarters, with officers participating at all regional levels. The power distribution corporation has urged citizens to report instances of power theft by sending complete information via WhatsApp to the General Manager (APT) at 94311-35515. The identity and phone number of informants will be kept strictly confidential.

  • Ranchi: 94 FIRs – ₹13.82 lakh penalty

  • Gumla: 67 FIRs – ₹7.86 lakh

  • Jamshedpur: 113 FIRs – ₹30.08 lakh

  • Chaibasa: 106 FIRs – ₹9.43 lakh

  • Dhanbad: 101 FIRs – ₹17.84 lakh

  • Chas: 92 FIRs – ₹15.81 lakh

  • Daltonganj: 125 FIRs – ₹15.91 lakh

  • Garhwa: 58 FIRs – ₹6.94 lakh

  • Dumka: 74 FIRs – ₹8.15 lakh

  • Sahibganj: 106 FIRs – ₹16.84 lakh

  • Giridih: 69 FIRs – ₹11.56 lakh

  • Deoghar: 64 FIRs – ₹25.59 lakh

  • Hazaribag: 112 FIRs – ₹21.97 lakh

  • Ramgarh: 72 FIRs – ₹6.47 lakh

  • Koderma: 44 FIRs – ₹5.85 lakh

Total: 1,297 FIRs | ₹2.15 crore penalty
