Dhanbad, April 25: The MBBS students of Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka have set a new record by donating 81 units of blood.
The officials of the district health department, as well as the medical college, said that students have not only created a record for the institution but it was also the highest donation of blood on a single day so far after the creation of Dumka Sadar Blood Bank.
PJMCH, Sadar Blood Bank and Satan Ashram Dhadhakia had jointly organized the donation camp in wake of the prevailing blood crisis in the district, especially at government hospitals where blood is given to poor patients as well as the needy free of cost and without replacement.
Director of medical education wing of state health department cum principal of PJMCH Dr Arun Kumar along with Swami Atamanand of Satan Ashram jointly inaugurated the camp.
The principal Dr Kumar on the occasion highly appreciated the efforts of MBBS students and encouraged them to continue the spree. He also shed light on the importance of donating blood.
Dr. Arun said that 81 students including 50 boys and 31 girls of the 2019 batch donated their blood voluntarily. Sources said that 60 of them were first-time donors.
“Students of the college showed keen interest in donation and such camps would be again organized on the requirement of blood in the district hospitals,” said Dr Arun Kumar.
Besides students and the principal of the college, senior professors, Dr Nand Kishore Karmali, Dr Subir Kumar, Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Vikash Kumar and Dr Chandrabhushan supervised the camp. Dr Manish Bharti felicitated the students who donated their blood.
MBBS students who were instrumental in organizing the camp successfully were Dr Manish Kumar, Raviraj, Dr Ashutosh Kumar, Dr Krishna Jai, Dr Simaran Choudhary, Dr Madhulika, Dr Soni, Dr Raunak, Dr Nishant, Dr Jagannath Prasad Shah and Dr Rajan.
Social activists Jatin Kumar and Manoj Soren also gave major contributions during the camp.
