Dhanbad, March 26: Medical officers (health department doctors) appointed as senior residents (SRs) and tutors in medical colleges of the state between 2016-2018 will now get their full salary payment.

Alok Trivedi, the additional secretary of the government has issued a notification in this regard over the salary payment and other benefits to senior residents and tutors at par with other senior residents and tutors who were appointed before the implementation of appointment, promotion and service conditions manual.

Over two dozen medical officers working as senior residents and tutors in five medical colleges of Jharkhand namely Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, Phulo Jhanu Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka, Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu and Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hazaribagh (SBMCH) would be benefitted from this notification.

These senior residents and tutors appointed between 2016 to 2018 draw a fixed amount of Rs 75,000. On the other hand, other medical officers who had been deployed as senior residents and tutors before implementation of the service manual get timely increments and draw above Rs 1.25 lakh as salary.
The State government had freezed the original salary of medical officers who were appointed as senior residents/tutors in medical colleges from 2016 to 2018. The Indian Medical Association, Jharkhand Health Service Association (JHSA) and Junior Doctors Association under Dr Ajit Kumar had strongly protested against it.

Sources said that under the pressure of a question raised by Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy in the State Assembly, the government has issued the notification for paying the original salary to the senior residents/ tutors.

Roy had asked the government why the original salary payment to senior residents/tutors is pending for a long time.

The JHSA and medical officers of the state have thanked Saryu Roy for helping in getting justice in the pay disparity.

However, additional secretary Alok Trivedi in his notification has said that the matter was under consideration for a long time and after deliberation, they have been given the original post’s payment.

After the notification issuance, now these senior residents/ tutors of the medical colleges would get an increment, PF deduction and other benefits.
