Jamshedpur, Aug 14: A middle-aged woman Sakuntala Mallik was suspected to have been strangulated to death at her in-laws’ house in Bada Gamharia under Adityapur thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Sunday morning.
In this connection, the police have begun an investigation after receiving a complaint lodged by the deceased’s cousin brother Vimal Pal against Sakuntala’s husband Jiten Mallik and her mother-in-law Radhi Mallik.
On Sunday morning, Jiten Mallik informed the deceased’s parents claiming Sakuntala suddenly died of the following illness, leading the anxious family to send Vimal Pal to Bada Gamharia immediately.
Having reached his brother-in-law’s house he found his sister lying dead on the floor. On looking at the body closely he found a lacerated mark around her neck.
When Vimal asked Jiten Mallik about the reason behind the lacerated mark on the neck, the latter replied she might have committed suicide by hanging. On being told a different reason behind the death, Vimal suspected foul play and instantly went over to Adityapur Thana for informing the police about his sister’s suspected strangulation death.
A police team reached the spot and having examined the body the police officers shifted it to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem.
OC, Adityapur Thana, Rajan Kumar Singh said though from the apparent condition of the body it seemed like a suicidal case, but the changed statement by the deceased’s husband regarding the cause of death aroused suspicion of a case of murder.
“But we cannot say anything conclusively until we get the postmortem report,” said Singh while talking to lagatar24.com.
The OC said the couple had married 20 years ago and were quarrelling over some serious matter, adding that the investigation is on.
