Daltonganj, Nov. 15: A few miscreants torched the single belt of four stone crushing plants at two villages, Salatuwa and Khami under the Chainpur police station on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

SP Chandan Kumar Sinha ruled out the involvement of any extremist outfit behind the torching of the stone-crushing plants. The damages are said to be partial.

“Chainpur police have got clues and identity of the miscreants behind this small scale arson. Police will soon nab them,” he said.

He also agreed that this incident is for extortion.

Officer-in-charge of Chainpur police station, Uday Kumar Gupta said single belts of each of 3 stone crushing plants were put on fire at Salatuwa. These plants belong to Dilip Sao and were operational ones.

“The belt of another stone crushing plant was torched at Khami village, barely 500 meters away from Salatuwa,” added Gupta.

The Khami stone crushing plant belongs to Babban Sahni and was inoperative.

“We have identified at least one suspect of this torching of belts who has gone into hiding. His family members are telling lies about his whereabouts,” said the OC.

When asked if these stone crushing plants are illegal, Gupta said that their owners claim they have legal papers for it to operate.
