Lucknow, Feb 25: Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, got into a contentious argument on Saturday morning after Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party Lawmaker Raju Pal, was killed in Prayagraj.

CM Adityanath declared, “unko mitti mein mila denge,” accusing the Samajwadi Party of supporting the mafia (criminals).

On Friday, Umesh Pal was fatally shot at his home in Prayagraj. He too was hurt in the firing, and one of his gunners later passed away in a hospital. After defeating former MP Atiq Ahmed’s younger brother Khalid Azim to win the Allahabad (West) assembly seat in his first election, Raju Pal was assassinated a few months later.

The main suspects in the murder of Raju Pal are Atiq Ahmed, his brother, and former Legislator Ashraf. All of the suspects are currently being held in jail.

Police said that the terrorists followed Umesh Pal’s car nonstop and had homemade bombs in their backpacks. One of the accused was seen in one of the video footage pulling a bomb out of his suitcase and throwing it at Umesh Pal.

“You (Samajwadi Party) patronise criminals, welcome them with garlands and then create drama over law-and-order situation in the state,” the CM said.

“Isn’t it true that Former MP Atiq Ahmed is supported by SP?” he questioned.

Responding to this, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said, “The way bombs were hurdled yesterday, it is clear that this government has completely failed and a gang war-like situation has developed. Is this Ramrajya where guns are being fired openly? Police is a complete failure and BJP is responsible.”
