Jamshedpur, June 28: The steel city of Jamshedpur is all set to have a better air quality shortly as the civic bodies have decided on this direction on Tuesday.
At a meeting jointly held by the special officers of the three civic bodies and officials of the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB), an action plan was chalked up to ensure the steel city is a better place to live in.
Significantly, the steps for bringing about a sea of change in the air pollution aspect followed after the civic bodies, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) and Jugsalai Municipality got a fund of Rs 58 crores from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) recently.
Revealing the plans, special officer, JNAC, Krishna Kumar said that under the aegis of the JSPCB, the three civic duties will work in tandem for making the steel city a cleaner city.
“From the fund of Rs 58 crores that has come from the MoEFCC recently, we will set up a pollution control checking station in the city. This apart we will buy mechanised road sweeping vehicles and also equipment to tackle the construction debris,” said Kumar while talking to the newsmen.
The special officer said they would also take initiative to make tree plantations on the sides of the road and in vacant spaces.
The special officer pointed out earlier that the matters related to maintaining air pollution level was being looked after exclusively by the JSPCB’s regional office in Adityapur, but once a pollution control checking station is set up here in the city, the civic bodies will be able to do the things themselves.
“The huge number of automobiles which contribute to the air pollution in the city at the most can be tackled effectively once such pollution control checking station is set up here, ” claimed the special officer.
Notably, Jamshedpur township is maintained by JUSCO, which is a subsidiary of the steel major, Tata Steel. But the areas like Mango and Jugsalai, which have a shabby look, are maintained by the MNAC and Jugsalai municipality respectively.
